How to Feel Good, Day 5 -- Think in Ite____________s.
The Day 5 way to feel good is to:
Think in iterations.
Dad joke response: "Can you say that again, only better?"
By iteration I mean doing something again, repeating it with the intent to improve it.
I have an iPhone 13. It's the roughly 13th version (or iteration) of the iPhone. Were the prior ones failures?
No. Apple just keeps finding things to improve.
I'm writing this using Windows 11.
Apple and Microsoft are two of the world's top companies and they think in iterations. Coincidence?
They aren't kicking themselves over the prior versions. They did the best they could in each version and celebrated the new release.
And they knew from the start they'd improve it forever.
This version is really good... AND we will get better.
Obviously, it's been very good for Apple to think and act in iterations. They make bank with each "new" iPhone.
Thinking in iterations for us can mean celebrating each best effort we make on whatever we're doing in our lives... and knowing that future iterations will be better.
This takes "failure" and thus, "fear of failure" which too often choke off our living a fuller, richer life and feeling good about ourselvses, out of play.
"I didn't fail. I'm not done. I'll learn from what I just did. Watch this next iteration."
So it may be your pitching or hitting, or it may be yourself and where you are at right now in your life. But right now is just the latest iteration.
Celebrate what's right about it, notice what could focus on to improve, and start on the next version.
What would you do if failure was out of the equation?
Seeing yourself as a continually both worth celebrating and knowing you will improve is liberating, which feels good.
And it's Playing Big,
